West Yorkshire

Click the map for tourism ideas The landscape of West Yorkshire is dominated by the Pennine Chain, but lowland areas occur in the east of the county. Leeds is the chief commercial and industrial centre of the metropolitan county. Since the 19th century, Yorkshire has been known for wool manufacturing, and the industry's impact on the region's industrial architecture is reflected in the stone- built weavers' cottages and soaring chimneys of the mill towns. The solitude of the bleak Pennine moorlands was vividly captured in the novels and poems of the Brontë sisters, who lived in Haworth.

Dating from 1897, Fanny's Ale & Cider House was originally a haberdashery selling wool from the mills. After changing use to pet shop and then off-licence the building then opened as a fully licensed pub. The lounge is Gas Lit so you may need a torch until your eyes adjust to the dim light but this is all part of the charm of a great little pub with No Juke Box, No Pub Quizzes and No Fruit Machines. Located on the main road through Shipley, Fanny's is just a short distance from Saltaire World Heritage site and as the name suggests - the Ales are excellent.
