Isle of Wight

Click the map for tourism ideas Ferries leave for the Isle of Wight from Southampton, Portsmouth, and Lymington. The island became popular with the Victorians who came to enjoy the sunny climate, long sandy beaches and pretty fishing hamlets. Osborne House at East Cowes was designed by Prince Albert and became Queen Victoria's favourite family home. Tourism is still very important and the island is a popular destination during the summer months. A number of national and international yachting events are staged at Cowes and ships are rarely out of view of the island's coastline. Inland, roads pass through attractive countryside and villages with thatched cottages and colourful gardens.

First impressions tell you that this is just another seafront bar but don't be fooled by the former hotel frontage. The ales are extremely well kept and the food is expertly cooked using local fresh ingredients. The location of the Ale & Oyster couldn't be much better, separated from Ventnor beach only by the Esplanade. Along with a good wine list and the stunning food, the service is as friendly as you'll find anywhere.
